My husband and I walked from the hotel where we parked our 18 wheeler. We stayed there so neither of us were actually looking for parking at the restaurant. Brilliant, I know. Lol
Open 7 days a week 11am til 10pm. That's what the website says anyway.
Food was great, server was not very upbeat or happy so to speek.
The food was mediocre, the air conditioning did not work, and they charge for literally everything. Our server was extremely short spoken and inattentive. The food took forever to reach the table. We were not only charged for water and other drink refills but also charged for our complimentary chips & salsa. 10 out of 10 would not recommend. Bad food, bad service, bad businesses model.
Great authentic Mexican food. Awesome friendly service. Place was really neat with lots of history behind it
Had 2 orders of Cheese Enchiladas with onions. Had it to go. They were awesome. Red enchilada sauce was spot on. Thanks Chuy's staff. It was awesome.
Hands down fantastic Mexican food!Chile Relleno burritos are ohhh my gosh delicious! Very spicy and oh so good! Get off the interstate and take a short drive through this charming little town!
I didn't actually get to eat here, so I cannot comment on the food. However, I love weird, quirky art! This place definitely 'fit the bill'. I dont know the story, but right next door, seemingly independent, yet connected, are many abstract art pieces made of 'rubbish'. Well, I just found it all cute, cute, cute and my granddaughter did too!
Awesome place to eat on road. Beer is crisp and cold. Had Chuys special and was good.
Great atmosphere and super friendly staff, along with great food made for a very GREAT lunch with the family. Great place to stop if your passing through.
I'm a regular here! And as always food was great. Red chili sauce for the enchiladas was on point
Food was excellent. Definitely a small town restaurant, which isnt bad at all.
Authentic Mexican foodJust passing by and visiting from Mexico we felt like trying something familiar. We were not disappointed. The food was just like back home. Typical road side restaurant with a lot of sports memorabilia. Could be catalogued as sports bar.
Great tasting, authentic Mexican food!Great service, friendly people! The fajitas are the best!!! They come out sizzling hot!!!
Thought this was a standard road side not so good place..but I was proved wrong..the food here was beyond good definitely recommend!
Have heard about this place for years and seen it on TX. travel shows and it lives up to everything I've heard & seen!
Chuy's!!! A road trip tradition. Catch the feel of the open air! A taste of the highway away from the McDonald's and Arbys, where family tradition is passed from father to son...Delicious choices, tacos, burritos, plates...nachos...and some of the coldest most refreshing iced tea West of the Mississippi...I seriously plan to stop at Chuy's...They have helped build many road side memories...they may not know the impact that good road side stops build...family, tradition, and comfort...just a great little place...and the salsa! Perfect...
The outside was more appealing than it was inside. Needs updating. We ordered veggie enchiladas which were just okay. Seemed to lack flavor and heat for us. The green salsa was excellent and the raspberry iced tea was very tasty. Not many options in Van Horn. We had planned to go to Mom's Kitchen which has 5 star reviews but they were closed Christmas week.
I heard great things about the food. I got the John madden special. It was ok. Looked better than it tasted. The guac was nothing special. The sweet tea not sweet. The best part was the salsa.
If food and wait time set the rating this would be a five star. Food was delicious and wait was minimal. Our waiter tho... He forgot our tortillas and then hung out in the kitchen. He kinda moped around like he had had too much to drink and had a hangover or was still half asleep. Whatever the case, he was one unmotivated biped. Otherwise we had a good experience. Quiet atmosphere.
I order the fried chicken with the French fries on the side. But to the point they took a while to bring me my order and when I started to eat the chicken breast it was still frozen in the inside of it. My chicken was still defrosting in my plate we I got it. But she took it back to the kitchen to fix my order up right away, which was good because I was just passing through the town. Good service!
Good food and prices. Nice family restuarant, not part of the chain.
Great place! Food was great, service was very good. The John Madden hall of fame was really cool.
Nice quaint Mexican food restaurant reasonably priced with good service. Adequate number of choices on the menu.
We stopped here for lunch on our way through Far West Texas. We had heard that this restaurant was a favorite of John Madden's as he made his cross country trips. Great atmosphere, service and food. I am glad we stopped by!!
Food was bland. Every thing tasted like it was from a can or box. I’ve had better Mexican food at Taco Bell. Will not be back again
Oh my goodness gracious it doesn't get much better than this! If you're a spicy sissy then stick to the nachos, if you like your food to wake up those taste buds then try the Chile Verde! However you like it, you can't go wrong with the flat enchiladas. Mmmm mmmm good!!!
The fajitas were excellent. Some of the most tender beef I have had with fajitas. The salsa was fabulous.
Our waitress was sweet, quick, and attentive. The food was better than what we'd been eating in Arizona the day before, and definitely got better the more salsa we added to everything, but the menu needed some variety. Burritos are just meat. I asked to add some other things, that made it tasty. That's about it.
The service was good. The waitress was friendly. The food was blah. They need to update their online menu! I wanted their chicken wings. That's why we stopped there. They no longer have them. So I ended up with the shrimp plate. Ugh ... soggy breading on frozen shrimp. Hubby's #1 Chuy's Special wasn't bad. Should have gone to the Steakhouse or Grill for wings.
At best the food is decent, at worst bad. Usually somewhere in the middle. I have to wonder why there is not a knife to be seen in this establishment.
Combo number one was under $10, more than I could eat, cooked to perfection.
Good authentic Mexican Food: a neat place to stop for lunch as your passing through Van Horn!
it's a very nice place to stop when traveling. the food is authentic. I highly recommend the gorditas and the rice. Our server noticed how fast we were going through tea, and she left the pitcher at the table for us. it's always awesome when that happens at a restaurant. and then when she offered a refill, she filled our glasses and the pitcher. the places was sort of empty but there were people spread out. the atmosphere was comfy. I would stop there again in my travels.
Relaxed atmosphere. Good food.
if they had more stars to give I would give them 10! Amazing Mexican food. I love how they stuff the gorditas with meat and you have more meat than masa! The chile relleno has an amazing and different batter to it but they are not telling there secret. I was very happy with the food, please stop by this amazing Mexican food restaurant. Thanks for making my birthday today with some great food!
Ordered fish tacos for the 1st time and the tortillas were soggy and dripping grease. Maybe the cook had a bad day or not, regardless it's unacceptable. Although the server was kind and brought me fresh cooked tortillas. The food is good, the cook just needs to step it up. 👍
Definitely disliked it. I watched how my drink was prepared and that's where it started. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and watched him add the frozen margarita from machine into the cup of ice. He couldn't get enough out of the machine so has added more ice and stirred that up. Then added a little liquid assuming sweet n sour and that was that. Then I went to order a shrimp cocktail and just my luck "We don't have any shrimp". Oh and if you want more chips and salsa you're gonna have to ask. I mean maybe it was just a bad experience for myself. I wish the next customer better service.
Horrible food. The gorditas are horribly small full of grease hamburger meat not cooked all the way beans where cold by the time i got shreded cheese for them. The person eating with me said his were cold when he got the plate. Crappie service wont ever eat there again.
Was not impressed with the quality of there food and the waitress forgot twice to bring the crispy taco I ordered. The enchilada sauce seamed to be from a can and not home made but the chips and salsa were good. But unfortunately we will not be visiting again.
Loved the place. Read some of the less great reviews and am surprised. Service was great, beer was cold, and the tacos were really good. The John Madden Hall of Fame was fun to check out.
The absolute worst Mexican restaurant along the way to/from El Paso. First photo the 3 sunny side up eggs the second photo is the Green chilli sauce with light cheese. A block of cheese with no sauce. On the top of that the waitress was making faces instead of apologizing. Blahhhh.
Walk in hungry, leave stuffed. Nice place for a quick bite or long meal. Helpful, knowledgeable and kind staff.
More of a Tex-Mex place to eat. Waiters could do with a bit more customer interaction training.
The food was that wonderful—excellent— that I have to give it 5 stars even though the inside is plain.( Except nice photos. ) and also to counteract any review that does not say the food is excellent. I had flat enchiladas with green sauce and an egg. Fantastic sauce. My husband had the John Madden special. He said it was beyond excellent, with feeling. The beans are amazing— the seasoning. Chips and salsa are great. The flan was fantastic— I’ve never had better. I can’t wait to come through here again just to eat here. Staff is friendly. All in all, we left very content!
Good was actually really good. Place could of been cleaner
Owner deceased an now its so dirty, food bland,no flavor, stale chips, lazy waitresses stood at register hollaring for 1 guy to do everything. Sticky floors, restrooms out of order,
Not bad but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed that they didn't know what "Al Pastor" or "Adobada" was.
It’s a memorable experience-the Madden haul of fame inside a Mexican restaurant. And that quirkiness is perhaps worth a step inside and ordering something small so you get to see it all. But the food is not as good and the celebrity photos in the entrance suggest it once was. Our loaded nachos were stale and salty. The good news was that the restaurant was cleaner than my first visit, so they have made some improvements.
Fun little place in this tiny Texas town with good authentic Mexican food. Decorated with interesting memorabilia from famous passerbys, including soecial attention to John Madden (NFL commentator) who lived this place and returned often. Glad we stopped in for our late lunch/early dinner!
They have the very best chili Verde burrito enchilada style. It's sad that the place is so far from my home. I ALWAYS stop when I'm in the area
Service was ok. The food, not so much. I have had better Mexican food at Jack in the Box. We wont be back.
